I hope this letter finds you well. My name is Beverly F. Smith, Founder and Executive Director of Momma's Safe Haven, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Washington, D.C. (EIN: 47-3974966). Since our establishment in 2014, we have been dedicated to supporting our community by encouraging self-love, higher education, and self-employment. We serve as a support bridge for individuals seeking resources to elevate their lives, firmly believing that it takes a healthy village to raise a child.
Our Programs and Impact
We offer a variety of programs and services at no charge to the community, many of which are intergenerational:
-
Healing Center: Provides support to mothers who have lost a child to community violence, offering counseling, weekly support groups, healing retreats, events and a compassionate community.
-
Resilience Academy: Assists youth through tutoring, life skills development, conflict resolution, barbering and cosmetology classes, art therapy, field trips and more.
-
#dcfilmlife: film school (including acting lessons, production classes, and writing workshops), and more.
Through these initiatives, we have positively impacted the lives of over 5,000 families across all eight wards of the District, fostering resilience and empowerment.
Current Financial Challenges
Despite our successes, we are currently facing financial difficulties due to funding cuts from the Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants and the Alliance of Concerned Men. This shortfall has led to a cancellation notice for our cyber insurance ($975 due by 3/20/2025), and we are awaiting responses to grant applications submitted to the Department of Recreation, the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, and the DC Housing Authority.
Request for Support
To continue our vital work, we are seeking support to cover our general operating budget of $5,000 per month. Your contribution would directly sustain our programs, ensuring that we can continue to provide essential services to those in need.

Sincerely,
